Happy Canada Day!
Happy 149th birthday Canada! You look great for your age.
For everyone in Saskatoon, there is an all day party at Diefenbaker Park starting at 08:00 with a breakfast buffet and ending in the evening with a fantastic fireworks display.
Where ever you are in Canada or Canadians around the world, I wish everyone a wonderful day full of friends, family, parties, BBQ's, and of course fireworks.
It is meant to be a hot one so, here is a tip to help keep cool while enjoying the outdoor activities on Canada Day:
Keep a spritzer bottle with Peppermint Hydrosol in your handbag and spray the back of your neck and chest when you start to feel overheated. It is uplifting and cooling and also helps with overcoming a hangover, in case too many wobbly pops are consumed. :)
(side note, I recently discovered the most wonderful summer drink, Okanagan Premium Black Cherry Cider. It is light and crisp and not too sweet and tastes fabulous on a hot day, plus, it is made with apples from British Columbia's Okanagan valley.) After all, it isn't everyday that someone turns 149, so go ahead and enjoy responsibly.
Spray the hydrosol on the bottoms of your feet if they are hot and an added benefit, it is also deodorizing. So, go ahead and dance all day and night, you are covered.
If you don't have peppermint hydrosol on hand, add 30 to 40 drops of peppermint essential oil to 120 ml of distilled water. Add to a glass spritzer bottle and shake well before using. Do not use this on children or animals.
For children ages 18 months to 12 years, try lavender hydrosol or add 24 to 30 drops of Lavender angustifolia essential oil to 120 ml of distilled water. Place in a glass spritzer bottle and shake well before using. An added bonus of using Lavender on children, it calms and relaxes so you can give them a spritz before bedtime to help them settle after a day full of fun.
I like using hydrosols for children because they are far more gentle than essential oils but I would still not use peppermint hydrosol on children.
Pregnant women in their first trimester should avoid using essential oils unless being advised by a Registered Clinical Aromatherapist or their Naturopathic Doctor.
It is meant to be a hot weekend, so please, if you have pets, leave them at home. Please don't leave them in the car while you are out shopping or running errands or whatever you need to do. If you think it doesn't get that hot in your car after just a few minutes, try sitting in there yourself for 10 minutes and see if you can handle it. To get a dogs perspective, throw a blanket or winter coat on top of yourself to get the full effect. Remember, dogs are people too. :)
Stay safe and have a wonderful long weekend.
